Joel Barrera

Hi, I’m Joel! I’m a software engineer who builds accessible, inclusive products and digital experiences for the web. I started my journey back in 2020, when I decided to pursue a career in tech. I started with a bootcamp, and then I got a job as a front-end developer working at Philip Stein . I joined their team as their sole front-end developer and had a big role to fill. As the lead front-end Developer i had a responsibility to improve the codebase that was provided to me, i took the initiative to discuss with the team and owners on the benefits of doing a complete restructure to not only improve performance but also remove outdated and deprecated code and designs that were causing numerous user pain points and causing conversion drops. This change yielded remarkable results driving a 60% increase in web traffic and generating substantial revenue growth-$500,000 in the first year and an additional $1 million in the second year. As my first job in tech, it has been a wonderful experience that has allowed me to grow as a developer and a person. I've also been working for a start up company called K-ZEN . This had to be created and designed completely from the ground up as we were creating the first iteration of the website. It has taught me a lot about how to work with a team and how to work with a client to create a product that they are happy with but is still accessible and responsive for the end user.

My main focus now is to grow as an engineer and discover new ways to create software that is both beautiful and functional. There are so many possibilities that can be created with programming and i want to explore it all. This website will not only serve as a place to showcase my work, but also a place for me to share my thoughts and ideas with the world. I will be branching out to all sides of the internet and working to make my corner as beautiful and as interesting as i can.    Build and maintain accessible and intuitive components to create an enjoyable and interactive experience for customers of all background. Focus on resolving customer accessiblity issues and customer pain points to ensure customer retention and growth stays at a steady pace. Work closely with the marketing and creative team to implement and advocate for best practices in web accessibility while keeping the companies vision commited. I also managed the customers inventory in the CMS and worked with creative and marketing teams to implement communication automations to increase yearly revenue by incentivizing customer retention on abandoned cart and abandoned browse increasing overall conversion.

   Work with the client to build and maintain a beautiful and high-quality website that meets both the client and the users needs. Worked with client step by step to build their brand from the ground beyond just web development by working with them to set up logistics and plan for architecture needed for issues that may arise with shipping, customer service, inventory and communication
